SUP (stand up paddleboarding) is a popular water activity that’s easy to get into and fairly accessible. We recommend paddleboarding in a marina where the waters are calmer so there is less risk for you and your pup falling into the water. Your dog will have a blast balancing on the board (they are naturals!) and feeling the ocean breeze. Rentals usually range $15-$25/hour and we recommend purchasing a life jacket for your dog as they may not be provided. Most rental companies are super dog-friendly as long as your dog has a life jacket on! Curious to know the best areas to paddleboard with your pup in the U.S.? Check out this list. Our notable mentions are Lido Paddle Sports and Southwind Kayak Center Rental Base both located in Newport Beach!

Kayaking with your pup is a guaranteed relaxing time on the water! Most rental spots by the beach or marina will include kayaking and paddleboarding options. This is a very safe water activity for your dog to enjoy and can be a little less intensive than paddleboarding (if that’s what you’re going for). Be sure to secure your dog in a life vest before you head to the waters.

We recommend renting a boat or duffy for any special occasion! You can enjoy food and drinks with your friends and family for some well-deserved bonding on the water. What’s even better is that many companies allow your beloved fur baby on board (although it may come at an extra cost or with some restrictions).

You’ll typically find tubing opportunities near a river and this activity requires minimal effort (no rowing or balancing, really). You and your pup can enjoy a lazy river ride together.
