dog beaches in san diego

San Diego is one of the most exciting and serene cities to visit if you love coastal views and dog-friendly recreational activities! The dog beaches in San Diego are some of the most well-maintained on the West Coast and boasts miles of white sand for your pups to frolic on! Check out our list of the best San Diego dog beaches below:

Ocean Beach Dog Beach

Address: W Point Loma Blvd and Voltaire St, San Diego, CA 92107

Ocean Beach’s Dog Beach is one of the most enjoyable dog beaches on the West Coast! It boasts miles of sand where you and your pup can let out as much energy as you need to. This off-leash beach is very well maintained and pleasant all year round. You’ll find a variety of dogs here and friendly pet parents. The dog beach is located on the northern part of Ocean Beach City Beach and is easily accessed by car or bike and provides private lot parking and street parking.

Coronado Dog Run Beach

Address: Ocean Blvd and Ocean Drive, Coronado, CA 92118

This off-leash dog beach is part of Coronado Beach in front of Sunset Park. There is a designated area where your dogs can be off-leash so be sure to follow the signs. This beach features soft white sand and a lot of dogs, so keep in mind that the weekends can get crowded! This location is huge but parking can be tricky and the spots fill up fast so be prepared to spend some time finding a spot. The coastal views are serene and beautiful and nothing beats spending an afternoon here with your furry best friend.

Del Mar Dog Beach

Address: Camino Del Mar Del Mar, CA 92014

The Del Mar city beaches are an exciting place to be as there are activities going on all year round. You can find surfers, volleyball courts, trails, and more! There is a long stretch of sand where dogs are free to roam off-leash. You’ll find shallow water here safe enough for your dog to wade in. The coastal views at this beach are hard to top and your pup will never want to leave after meeting all the friendly pups here. Parking can be a hassle so we recommend coming during off hours, parking on Via de la Valle (then taking a short walk to reach the beach), or parking at Hilton Del Mar for a fee and taking advantage of their free shuttle service to and from the beach.

Fiesta Island Beaches, Mission Bay

Address: 150 E Mission Bay Dr San Diego, CA 92109

Mission Bay has a continuous beach around its perimeter that is totally worth exploring. There is an off-leash area for your dog along with plenty of on-leash walkable space. You’ll want to map yourself to Fiesta Island Off Leash Dog Park to find this doggy oasis. Unlike other dog beaches, this space is more isolated which can feel very peaceful especially during off hours. A lot of larger dogs frequent this beach. Along with sand and water, you’ll also find dirt, rocks, and grass so anticipate lots of fun and a bit of a mess. There is ample parking on the dirt lot!
